Chanute, KS to Pittsburgh, KS
58 / 2335
I'm up before the sun and on the go. Sante Fe road is closed due to road work so I take another route. Ford Road seems the best choice. All is well for a while but the pavement gives way to gravel and it's tough going as the sun rises....
I stop in a convenience store in the town of Walnut for breakfast. Inside I meet a white whiskered man in overalls. He's really chatty and a bit nervous, too. He's in and out of his seat constantly, looking out the window. He says he doesn't trust the individuals standing near his car. He met an Irish man last year who was taking a trip like mine.
Here's a cool little building in Walnut...
I keep cruisin' south on sunny Seven on my way to Girard. I've been told that Girard is home to Chicken Annie's and Chicken Mary's. Annie and Mary are sisters that once owned a single restaurant but have since parted ways. Some folks say one is better than the other, others visit the one closest to home.
It heats up quite a bit before arriving in Pittsburgh. I reach town and sit outside of a Walgreens. A funny dude on a messed-up mountain bike takes a seat beside me and we're content just sitting quietly. I order a handlebar bag to match my set and to get all that junk outta my jersey!
