Well, I packed a lot of stuff and then reconsidered and rethought and figured out how some items could serve double duty and removed items accordingly. Award for heaviest item goes to... The tent! Weighing in at 4lbs 4oz it proves to be the most loathsome (and under-used?) item in the pack! Second place goes to sleeping bag + pillow (3 lbs+), third to the bike cable/lock(1 lb 1oz). Water of course will be the heaviest load, especially while in the desert.
Total pack weight without water is 44lbs.
2 liters of water weighs in at about 5 lbs 6 oz
Carrying 4+ liters will bring the load to 57 lbs or more...
And then there's food!
