Day 13

Ely to Baker

Leaving Ely I encounter some whopping headwinds and beautiful scenery.

Hard work pays off and today's ride offers a pitstop, Major's Junction

Major's Junction has a funky little shack. I think the B-52's would highly approve.

Folks autograph dollar bills and tack em to the ceiling. I forgot to leave mine.

There's a smile that says," I just had beer and a fried chicken sandwich!"

Straight down from Major's, and the wind finally gives me a push around the next corner!

The last ten miles sets me in the aptly named Great Basin. This was truly one of those "whoa!" moments!

My lodging for the night is a terrific cottage/cafe. They serve great food and play good tunes, too.

Day twelve

Eureka to Ely

The sun is out! The first summit isn't too bad, but the descent is freezing!

After cruising down to Newark Valley,I pull over to jog in place and do push ups to get warmed up. Biking harder just gets me colder!

The next summit offers some light snowfall as I ascend. When I take a breather I notice something moving on the hill. Where's Wooly?

The last 15 miles into Ely offers massive headwinds, but I eventually reach downtown which aside from lots of vacancies is totally shut down for Memorial Day. I had gas station tacos for dinner this night. Ugh.
